Dual Enrollment

Welcome to McFarland High School Dual Enrollment–Home of the Cougar Renegades!

McFarland Early College Dual Enrollment program allows high school students to take college courses while earning both high school and college credits simultaneously. Students receive 10 high school credits for every three (3) college units earned, and dual enrollment courses are weighted like Honors and AP classes. These courses are offered at no cost to students, helping them save money on future college expenses while getting a head start on their college education. The program encourages students to explore their strengths, identify their interests, and begin developing a pathway toward future success.

With our Bakersfield College partners, students have the opportunity to choose from five different pathways: Spanish Associate Degree for Transfer, Business, Public Health, Media Arts, and Welding. Each pathway provides students with college-level coursework and opportunities to explore potential career fields. The Spanish AA-T pathway consists of 60 units and provides students with the opportunity to earn an associate degree and transfer to a four-year university. The Business pathway consists of 14 units and focuses on administrative and business skills, while the Public Health pathway consists of 27 units and introduces students to healthcare systems, health education, and community health careers. The Media Arts pathway consists of 15 units and develops skills in multimedia, photography, video production, and motion graphics. The Welding pathway consists of seven (7) units and provides hands-on technical training in welding and metal fabrication. Students must earn a grade of C or better in all college courses, and certain courses will be embedded into their high school schedules to ensure graduation requirements are met.

Overall, our Early College program provides our Cougar Renegades with an opportunity to earn college credits, explore career interests, develop valuable skills, and begin working toward college certificates or degrees while still in high school.
