Frequently Asked Questions
We value your time, so we’ve done our best to provide fast answers—all in one place. But if you don’t see what you’re looking for here, check the student handbook or give us a call. We’re always happy to help you.
How do I enroll my child at MHS?
We are thrilled to welcome new members to our community! Please visit our district Registration page for information about enrolling at McFarland High School.
What if my child requires medication during the school day?
We will administer medication in accordance with state regulations and with physician and parental approval. Please complete a medication authorization form, available at the front office, and bring medications in their original, labeled packaging to our office staff.
What is Aeries and how do I get a username and password to use it?
Aeries is just another way we keep communication between home and school strong. It provides you with almost real-time access to your child’s grades, attendance history, and other important information. To set up an account, please view our tech-help document.
What are the school hours?
Arrival: 7:15-7:30 a.m.
Dismissal: 3:05 p.m.
For detailed bell schedules, please refer to our student handbook.
What do I need to do if my child will be absent from school?
If your child must miss school, please notify the attendance office as soon as possible. You may do that with a written note or phone call. Our office opens at 7:15 a.m. and closes at 4:00 p.m. Feel free to leave a message. For information about attendance requirements and what qualifies as an excused absence, please refer to our student handbook.
Do you enforce a dress code at MHS?
We expect our students to dress in an appropriate manner at all times. Student dress may not present a health or a safety hazard; violate municipal, county, or state law; or present a potential disruption of the educational process. Generally, we do not allow:
- Shorts, skirts, or dresses with a bottom hem that rests above the tip of a student’s index finger while standing
- Torn, frayed, see-through, or mesh clothing—even if worn over appropriate clothing—and tights or leggings unless worn under and covered by appropriate clothing
- Spaghetti-straps or shirts and dresses with less than two inches of a sleeve
- Clothing that exposes any part of the wearer’s midsection, even if covered with or by appropriate clothing
- Clothing with any logo, writing, symbols, or numbers that reflect violence, malicious behavior, offensive language, sexual innuendo, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or anything otherwise considered disruptive or gang related
- Excessively baggy or large coats and sagging pants (i.e. gang-related, trench, or “goth” styles)
- We define “excessively baggy” as pants being bunched at the waist under a belt, pants with a low-hanging crotch, pants that cover the feet of the wearer or that drag on the floor.
- Backless shoes or those without a heel strap including flip-flops, slides, slippers, crocs, or clogs; or shoes with a heel greater than two inches.
- Non-prescription dark glasses worn on the face or head, hats, caps, bandanas, hairnets, visors, or other non-MHS-spirit headgear. Plain, solid-color beanies and black baseball caps may be worn, as well as approved, religiously exempted head coverings.
- Exposed body tattoos and piercings (we allow up to two earrings per ear)
- Unnatural hair colors
- Students on school property or at any school activity to wear, possess, use, distribute, display, or sell any clothing, jewelry, bandana, emblem, badge, symbol, sign, or other item perceived as evidence of membership in or affiliation with a gang—including solid red or solid blue shirts, pants, or outerwear.
What is the cell phone policy at McFarland?
MHS is a cell phone–free zone. We do not allow students to use cell phones or smart devices during class hours. These times are strictly for learning. Please review our student handbook for more information.
